One Room Challenge Spring 2019-Week 1

One Room Challenge Spring 2019-Week 1

In my last post, I mentioned that we were committing to finishing our boring basement project before we started any new projects. We also need to stop spending for a bit and save some money! Spring Break is coming up and we are staying home, and since I can’t really install new floor joists or electrical on my own, I figured I needed a little project to work on while Patrick and my dad are at work…

Lucky for me, my sister Brett just moved into a new apartment a couple of weeks ago and asked for some help decorating. She is also a teacher and has the same week off. I decided there would be no better way to spend someone else’s money and fit in some quality sister bonding time than the One Room Challenge!

If you are new here, the One Room Challenge is a six week challenge that takes place every October and April as a way for both featured designers and guest participants (basically anyone with a blog) to inspire and encourage each other to transform a space in a short amount of time. This will be my second time participating. You can check out my Fall ORC transformation here!

Brett’s apartment is basically just one room other than the bedroom and bathroom, so we are going to take her little house and transform it from a boring rental into a modern boho bachelorette pad!

Here are some pictures of the apartment completely empty. She has most of the basics in there now like a couch, rug, tv stand, and table. Here are some of her needs:

  • Dining Room Chairs

  • Paint/Wall Art

  • Curtains

  • Accessories

  • Plants

  • Lighting

And finally, here is our Mood Board with the overall look and feel we are going for. Our biggest inspiration comes from Hartman Haus. She has so many cool ideas for rentals like colorblocked walls and washi tape wallpaper. We also love these cute DIY hanging planters from A Beautiful Mess.

We are trying to stick to a tight budget, and will be searching every Home Goods and Target in town, as well as Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace for some good DIYs. I’ll be collecting some supplies this week in hopes to get a bunch of our projects accomplished during Spring Break! Be sure to check in each week for updates and check out the rest of the participants over on the One Room Challenge Page!

Wish us luck! If it’s anything like the last One Room Challenge, we are going to need it!
