All I Want for Christmas is to be Done with Demo…
I’ve been pretty quiet here since finishing up the One Room Challenge back in November but we have definitely been keeping busy. The day after we finished the guest bedroom we got right work on demo in the creepy basement. We got a lot done and found A LOT of weird stuff down there. There aren’t a lot of pretty or exciting pictures to share.
It will eventually be a partially finished workout space, craft room, and wine cellar. I love the brick, the old stone foundation, and the wood beams and want all of that to remain visible. I actually want to keep it a little bit creepy in a way, just clean and free of critters.
We have a long way to go down there to get it how we want it, but we knew there was some sketchy electrical and other hidden things behind the drywall. We wanted to get a better idea of what we were working with before we moved forward with any other projects. We discovered that the electrical is worse than we thought and that the floor joists have been damaged from powder post beetles. Luckily my dad should be able to help fix this but it will take some time and a ton of work.
In addition to the floor joists and electrical, we had the fireplace re-lined and also need a new roof and to replace the main sewer line. We knew we would have to deal with some of these things with an old house and it will be worth it in the long run, but unfortunately all of the big expenses mean our other prettier and more fun projects will have to be put on hold.
In the meantime, we have lots of little projects we can tackle! I just refinished my grandma’s old buffet and dressed it up for Christmas with some of my favorite finds from CB2 along with a diy wreath. I’m obsessed with black right now and want to paint everything black!
Here is our list of little projects:
Paint Dining Room Fireplace (black of course)
Paint Kitchen Island and Hood (also going black!)
Strip and Refinished Stained Glass Door to Guest Bedroom
Paint Upstairs Guest Bedroom
Remove Wallpaper on Staircase and Refinish or Paint
Remove All Ugly/Dead Plants and Trees From Yard
Clean Up & Decorate Built-In Bookcase
I hope to use my two week winter break to get a few of these things done! Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday!
